UD mens Tennis
congrats to Tobey and Euen who participated in the NCAA tennis championships. They represented our school admirably at then event which hadn't seen a UD qualifier since Jeff Dumansky played in singles back in 73-74. I remember the 2 jeffs- Dumansky and Jeff Olmstead who played doubles together at UD under Doc Rylander(RIP) and were our most successful team in season victories. That brought back memories to me of playing Olmstead back in the Delaware State Championships twice. The first time he blew me away! We met again a few years later and had quite a tight match. Naturally Jeff won- as he did many state championships back in the 70's. I expect he's still a winner in his career.

I knew Jeff Olmstead when we were both Freshmen in Dickinson D. Bill- my basement saw a good bit of spirited ping pong in its time with a few of my friends. It was a winter thing when tennis was snowed out. We used to play outside tennis in bitter winter weather and were known to shovel off a court to satisfy our love of the sport. the old Student Center courts as well as others around.
As to PP- we got pretty good and I visited the YMCA ping pong center and got my butt kicked at first by the guys there. I learned a lot by playing them and picked up a sponge paddle and began to get be somewhat competitive. The spins were difficult to handle but so
. I began using them when the schools where I taught history began creating PP tournaments for the staff which actually got pretty exciting. additionally we often played for a few minutes at lunch.

do our tennis scholarships for men and or women include NIL money? many of our squad are coming in from outside the US. What about travel costs involved for players and or coaches? Since tennis which I love and all the other MINOR sports don't turn a profit, I don't believe any NIL$$ should be available to them. The problem here is there isn't any info available to determine the current dollars going out to teams/players signed. anyone know the SOP of most universities in this regard or for that matter UD's SOP

NIL money is tied to the personal brand value of each athlete, not the sport itself. So I guess the school could argue there's no value, whereas the athlete would have to prove that there is. In a non-revenue sport I'd think the school would have the better argument.

Just to add to YouDee Blues information there is also Revenue Sharing (RS) in addition to NIL money. Revenue Sharing comes from the House settlement.
NIL is external
RS is internal from the school
NIL is athlete negotiated
RS is school structured
NIL is available broadly
RS may be limited by sport/policy
Athletes can earn both personal brand deals (NIL) and institutional payments (RS).
Thus, in addition to scholarship $$ (full or partial), an athlete can receive $$ directly from the school based on school policy and sport and he/she can earn money from an outside source.
