Delaware Stadium Capacity
I've always read that it was 18,000 after the renovations but last night's attendance was 19,176.

Re: Delaware Stadium Capacity
How did the crowd look live? Looked pretty dang good on TV. Hope this trend continues.
Re: Delaware Stadium Capacity
Maybe the Clubhouse and President's suite account for tickets over and above the seating capacity?
Oooof.
Re: Delaware Stadium Capacity
It's a lot of parents that aren't exactly rabid Hen fans, but I'll take a sellout anytime. I'm just thinking, if the capacity is 19,200, then report it as such. Not 18,000 which it currently the "official capacity".

It was a great crowd and a great atmosphere, for those that were there. Just unfortunate for all that we could not get the win.LifetimeHensFan wrote: ↑Sat Oct 04, 2025 10:15 pm More lies from the UD athletics department either lying about stadium capacity or lying about attendence last night

The apparent size of the crowd ebbs and flows throughout the game and at halftime. From my seats on the west side, at times it's look pretty darn full in the east stands. Regardless it was a big and mostly loud group.

I remember over 22,000 for a game vs Temple
Re: Delaware Stadium Capacity
I’m with Info. You also have to recognize the “End of the 3rd Quarter Shuffle”. No matter the score, lots of people leave the stadium after the third quarter. I’m not sure why but it could be for dozens of reasons. Fire up the grill, beat the traffic(though there really isn’t any), going to the kids soccer game (sorry it was about 10pm by that time). I guess casual fans being casual…at least they bought a ticket.Info Hound wrote: ↑Sun Oct 05, 2025 2:37 pmThe apparent size of the crowd ebbs and flows throughout the game and at halftime. Re: Delaware Stadium Capacity
At kick off, the stands were about half full. By early second quarter the Tub was packed. Yes, it was a sell out as the 19K plus attest to. After half, maybe 20 percent didn’t come back to their seats. By early 4th quarter, it was only maybe 2/3 full. By the missed fg at the end it wasn’t even half full. A very mediocre effort by the fans all the way around in my opinion for such a big game.
It addition to upgrading the program moving to FBS, many of our fans have to learn how to be football fans again. That includes being in their seats for the band march onto the field and the team running onto the field or at a minimum the kickoff and then staying at least until the game is decided.

Salient points. It might take time to rebuild a rabid fanbase like we had in the 1970s and late 1990s/early 2000s. My perception is that we have a sizeable percentage of casual ticket buyers who will hopefully someday become season ticket holders. I'm happy people are showing up and paying for the privilege.Hens79 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 05, 2025 8:50 pmIt addition to upgrading the program moving to FBS, many of our fans have to learn how to be football fans again. What's really odd--and I didn't see this as much in the heydays of yore--are the number of people who get up during the action to visit the concessions, loo, etc., almost as if a game wasn't happening. To each his own, but I think it underscores the lack of real interest in the football game. Anyway, we got them in the stadium. Here's hoping their interest turns to the team on the field in time.
It feels like things are headed in the right direction on the field and off. I couldn't be happier.

Another example for the operations folks:
Please try to avoid the THIS IS OUR HOUSE scoreboard segment entering the fourth quarter when you're trailing by 10 points and focusing on fans who look lethargic, sullen (with many empty seats around them), etc. It's ok to deviate from the plan (I didn't notice if it was a sponsored announcement - that would be different).
Still, it gives the same vibes as playing celebratory loud speaker music after an opponent touchdown. There's got to be a better way.
I felt bad for Gannon too trying to get the crowd to chant in the first half. This has never been a chanting crowd. A sizable chunk of fans at the football games simply don't care about the football game. It's social hour/booze/distraction time from kids/getting out of house, etc.

Re: Delaware Stadium Capacity
The GO Hens chant used to be pretty well done, so in Gannon's defense it wasn't the chant, just that we haven't had much to chant about in the recent past. Great crowd on Friday and I'd say plenty care about the football, still had a high percentage of that 19k crowd in their seats on that last drive in the 4th. Starting to feel like the good ol' days in the stadium again. Love it.UD '01 grad wrote: ↑Mon Oct 06, 2025 9:12 am Another example for the operations folks:

I’m curious as to what happened to those rabid fans in the 80’s ?Bluewyn Gold wrote: ↑Sun Oct 05, 2025 9:23 pmIt might take time to rebuild a rabid fanbase like we had in the 1970s and late 1990s/early 2000s.Hens79 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 05, 2025 8:50 pmIt addition to upgrading the program moving to FBS, many of our fans have to learn how to be football fans again.
