WKU Loss

Post by Ramblinrec74 »

With the loss of Western Kentucky to FIU, this upcoming UD vs Jax State becomes a critical game for UD. Liberty knocked off New Mexico State as well. Conference title is up for grabs! I believe WSU and Jax State still have to play each other last game of season!

That WKU qb didn't look anything like the one who played us.

Someone is going to chime in and say how well we defended WKU.

Oh, wait…they already did that.

Guess we need to update the stats on that ferocious WKU offense:

Built on what?

Last 5 games of 2024, WKU scored 17 (JMU), 12 (Jax St), 19 (Jax St - yes, again), 21 (Liberty), 7 (La Tech).

And 2025?

41 against 0-5 Sam Houston, 55 against 1-4 FCS North Alabama, 21 against Toledo, 31 against 1-4 Nevada, 27 against 2-3 Mo State and 20 against Delaware. Bonus update: 6 points against FIU.

The score totals, with the exception of Delaware, are the total scores...didn't bother to check for any defensive scores.

So, 12 games...11 against FBS.

Of those 11 FBS games:

5 teams held WKU under our scoring (JMU, Jax st (twice), La Tech and FIU.

2 games WKU scored only 1 more point than our 20.

1 game a team scored 6 more points than our Hens.

Only in 2 games , against 1-4 Nevada (31 points) and pathetic 0-5 SHSU (55 points), did WKU score what could be considered a measurable increase in points versus our defense.

So, our D wasn't any more effective than the vast majority of WKU's last 11 FBS opponents.

Not bothering to check on whether any other teams scored a defensive TD or a special team's TD...and not going to dig deep to see if WKU was given any short fields in those other contests...but I did take off 7 points for our O giving up a defensive TD.

Last 11 FBS games...WKU doesn't look like an offensive juggernaut. Yet we have a bunch of people celebrating as though we held Tom Brady & Co. in check.

Updates made.
Oooof.

Their new coach, who got schooled by Carty down in Miami, seems to have righted the ship… at least for now but CUSA is showing us rough and unpredictable seas will rise again

I have to give the FIU coach a temporary safe haven from internet tough guys because FIU looked disabled and adrift against Delaware

Nice salvage job to the FIU coach
recruiting recruiting recruiting...It ain't rocket science....We need better more athletic players...That simple....

I only caught a few minutes of that game, but the tackle made by FIU on the kickoff after they went up 19-3 was AWESOME!

Do yourselves a favor and dial up the replay on ESPN and enjoy that tackle if you didn't see it. It happens with 2:57 left in the 2nd quarter. Somebody let Terry Tate, Office Linebacker, suit up for FIU on that play.

Liked how FIU was actually rushing more than 3 people on 3rd down and pressuring their quarterback. Guess that’s not in our playbook!

The surprising thing WKU was home. I believe they took them much too lightly and got their hat handed to them!

I thought I had a feel for who-was-who in CUSA until this game last night.
Now, I don't know what to think.
My "mental model" of the conference has been shattered.
Be careful of the words you say,
keep them soft and sweet.
You never know from day to day
which ones you'll have to eat!

Nobody in CUSA is really playing at a high enough level of a football for there to be a clear, consistent top dog. Wouldn't be surprised to see a "circle of suck" (term for a scenario where A beats B, B beats C, and C beats A, giving every team in the conference a transitive win over every other team).
