I’m not a fan of the all black uniforms but if the players like them I’m okay with it. I prefer the traditional blue and gold at home and love the white jerseys and blue pants on the road (my favorite color combination). I understand why some don’t like the names on the back of the jersey but it does help the fans identify the player easier. The bottom line is just win.
I have always been way more interested with the players inside the uniform than the uniform itself, but when I saw the uniform combo we were wearing for the Florida International game …. I was like wow I do like that uniform
Names on back are fine with me, especially in the portal era
recruiting recruiting recruiting...It ain't rocket science....We need better more athletic players...That simple....
My favorite uniform color combination...is the one that increases the win column. Like Info Hound said "who the f cares".
Blue and gold/yellow is never going away.
But...if some alternate version gets the players excited, let's do it. It's an alternate and not the permanent version. The black uni's only come out once or twice a season. As other posters stated, the players love it.
Change is hard. But anything we can do to increase the fan base, the tickets sold (including season tickets), and the merchandise purchased...I am for it. All of those factors help the program grow.
Names on the back of the jersey has been a great addition. The players love it and now it is easy to see who is who from the stands.
It is only a matter of time before the football team creates a new alternate. It is what a lot FBS programs do - not all, but many. Plus, I believe other UD sports have created new alternates.
I would hope that the reasoning for the blue and gold (loosely defined) tonight is starting to build our brand on national TV. Black doesn’t cut it. We are already distinctive and recognizable because of our helmets and the bright blue sets us apart from that other school that wears them.

I am not a big fan of the Black uniforms. Further they are almost invisible at night and if used at all should be in the afternoons in cool weather because black aborbs the sun & heat.
See, this is why I like you...it's the little things. The sun is a mighty powerful heat.
As an outdoor guy and a weather guy, your post made me all warm and fuzzy inside.
Final grade: 98
-1 point for, "aborbs." and minus another point for the lack of commas.

I love the all black under the lights. It looks intimidating. We have also NEVER lost when we wear black.
But really, who gives an f'?
JUST WIN!
Apparently, a lot of folks do.
Whenever I start feeling like I am getting old and stuck in my ways, I can go on gohens or a BHTC lunch and realize I have a long way to go And btw, I really, really enjoy the BHTC lunches. Super nice crowd of folks who love UD football, very informative and I like going places where I bring the average age down.
An example of info gained at the lunches is that it will be blue and yellow/gold tonight and the black uniforms are not going away. The players love them.
Oh I love these uniform color discussions. We post ad nauseum about them and, surprise, no one changes their opinions.
News from Football SID, Ed LaFurge, provided at the BHTC lunch.
1. Blue tops and gold pants not only tonight but also on Homecoming.
2. Players don’t like the gold/yellow pants because they are too tight. They’re forced to wear a size larger. Uni pants are not purchased every year, so they will have to grin and bear it until an order is placed.
3. The team’s leadership council picks the pants color.
4. When asked about the helmet, Ed said there has been no discussion or buzz about a change or an alternate. The winged helmet, as is, is safe!
Oh, and to the folks who don’t like the black unis because they are not the school colors, neither is white a school color but we have wearing white jerseys for a very long time.
Edit: No matter what color unis, looking forward to and excited about tonight’s game! GO HENS!

mpwerrell, With rare exception every college FB team has worn white jerseys for Away games. Has UD has ever worn white jerseys for a Home game, maybe with an all white look or with blue pants? UD's white jerseys always have had blue (and some yellow/gold?) numbers and trim.

Thanks for the information about which I had no clue. Come on Bill, just trying to make a point about one of the criticisms about the black unis. Sorry you didn’t get the point.
